2 million iPads in 2 months....hmmm some seem out of step here.... perhaps those that comment should actually have used one....just sayin" :coffee:

I have, tried it out at an Electronics Store and was unimpressed. Quite frankly the Laptop is more convenient because a laptop bag also doubles as a rather handy replacement for a back-pack when going to University, not to mention a laptop has access to far superior programs for both learning and entertainment.

And, of course, an iPad would never fit in a laptop bag.

Of course it would though poorly and ineffectually, making the entire use of a laptop bag redundant. An ipad would need its own specially designed carry bag to properly fit. Then you have the problem of it being an expensively poor compromise. It does nothing that a laptop cannot do, but has plenty of functions beyond its capacity.

Also, as a tablet platform it also lacks several features of competing tablet platforms while costing more than most.

One feature of which are USB ports.

I just don't get it. It seems a complete FAIL to me.

How do you hold it? I know that when I use my iPhone, I hold it in the palm of my left hand and use my right hand with the touchscreen. My left hand angles it towards my face. When I use a laptop, I sit it on my lap and angle the screen towards my face. The iPad seems too big to easily balance on the palm of your hand, and on your lap it would be facing the wrong direction. I've not had change to play with one yet, but I'm struggling to visualise exactly how I'd hold/use the thing.

Just like a big iPhone, or you can get a case that is pretty much a 45 degree angled lap stand, it's not included of course :nono: oh no that'll be another £30 please faithful apple sucker customer.

I looked at one at Best Buy. It looks good and looks like it would be easy to use. However, the lack of flash and USB ports renders it useless to me. My netbook does more for less and is also highly portable.

Am I remembering correctly that the only place you can download applications is the Apple app store? Why would I want Apple deciding what programs I want or need?

That last reason is the main one why I've dumped the iphone. Still got me touch though, as my car's music memory!

How do you hold a book? How do you hold a newspaper? You can put it on a table, put it on your knee, hold it in your hand... It's not hard.

I understand Apple's ostensible rationale for doing it, it's a form of quality control. Apps have to conform to their guidelines. It prevents apps being made available that have major memory leaks, etc. However, they have also imposed their morality corporate marketing strategy on the apps available for iPhone. The game Dope Wars / Drug Wars is not available on the iPhone because they have deemed it to be a subject not fitting for their brand. Likewise, porn apps don't exist. I don't know what other content restrictions apply, but presumably there are others.

Perhaps the competition offered by Android will make them rethink these restrictions, but I'm not holding my breath. Apple are making enough money at the moment that for them and their turnover, the restrictions might actually be the best idea.
