Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Greta is a later day Joan of Arc. Her followers will do the entire Pol Pot thing to save the planet when she gives the word, and she will. It's a question of when not if....next five to ten years, she'll do the full suicide cult thing. This entire climate change business as grown into pure hysteria with every leaf blown in the wind that a digital camera catches. Something that's been two hundred years on the brew needs time, patience and a measured approach to resolve not obsession over the numbers on a weather chart. And a quick fix that collapses modernity and leaves small pockets of light to go out in eternal night as the seas rise quietly over the centuries to come.

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Thirty years from now there will be a time for some action. Wisdom, intelligence, would instruct to use the calm before the storm for thinking not doing...there'll be time enough for action when the climate war arrives. (I, crumple, invented the term climate war to indicate a global conflict unknown in human history since folks argued about lifeboats on the titanic) when it turns up in the popular lexicon you hear here first...
Can't land a plane with a flap on. Something I learnt at flight school. Even if you are flying by instruments don't try to land whilst there's panic in the air. Say seventy per cent of civilizations don't come back from climate induced catastrophe that means thirty percent do. Half the Roman Empire survived the fall of the West. Probably the Canadian half - if it is gonna be like that for a few decades, waste of time putting too much effort and worry into windmills and solar panels that'll be shot to pieces in the civil malaise to come. Sustainable tech is a hot water bottle not a hot water boiler. Think local if you want to survive. Anything too complicated won't make it through the civilization collapse dayse. When Rome fell it wasn't the Roman steam engine or clockwork that made it to the other side.

France and UK told: end dispute or you’ll wreck Cop26 summit
Scientists and experts in despair over fishing row, as prime minister (Arseface) declares summit will be ‘world’s moment of truth’
Leading scientists and environmentalists called on Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron to declare an immediate ceasefire in a bitter Anglo-French row over fishing rights on Saturday as fears grew that the UK’s arguments with its EU neighbours could overshadow the crucial Cop26 summit on climate change.
On the eve of the UK hosting 120 world leaders at the meeting in Glasgow, the prime minister said the summit would be “the world’s moment of truth” and could mark “the beginning of the end of climate change”. Speaking at a meeting of G20 leaders in Rome, he added: “The question everyone is asking is whether we seize this moment or let it slip away.”
But as the countdown continued, there was exasperation among green groups and scientists at the way UK and French governments were at each other’s throats in an argument over fishing rights, at a time when the UK is also threatening to invoke article 16 of the Northern Ireland protocol in a move that could trigger a new trade war with the EU.

All part of the masterplan - UK got lots of oil whilst the EU depends on a constant flow from Saudi. So when the reactor gets blown up and the oil price doubles and doubles again EU will come apart at the seams. Boris just keeping EU distracted before the fateful day. That's the plan, anyways.Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 10:01 amThe white wash continues:

Those lovely jet fighters and bombs the UK sells to Saudi Arabia are paid for in oil. Bombing Yemeni hospitals and schools is a crude business.

This country was built on war. Some are demolished by it. Life isn't fair. Even a cricket bat can be used as a weapon. Not much money in cricket bats though.

‘Reality check’: Global CO2 emissions shooting back to record levels

With illegal factories like this and nobody doing any thing about them no wonder:Fossil fuels are surging in post-pandemic recovery as scientists warn 1.5C emission limits will be reached in 11 years
Global carbon emissions are shooting back to the record level seen before the coronavirus pandemic levels, new analysis has shown. Scientists said the finding is a “reality check” for the world’s nations gathered at the Cop26 climate summit.
The emissions driving the climate crisis reached their highest ever levels in 2019, before global coronavirus lockdowns saw them fall by 5.4%. However, fossil fuel burning has surged faster than expected in 2021, the international research team said, in stark contrast to the rapid cuts needed to tackle global heating.
The data shows world leaders have failed to build back greener, with just a small proportion of pandemic spending going to sustainable sectors. But the scientists said hopes of keeping global heating to 1.5C remain alive if Cop26 leads to rapid global action.
The Global Carbon Project (GCP) report shows emissions from coal and gas jumping this year by more than they fell in 2020. Oil use is also rising in 2021, but more slowly because transport activity remains below normal.

You must get Russia, China and USA on board otherwise it is pointless and just "green washing" which is exactly happening in Glasgow. How did Johnson travel back to London? Private jet! Nobody here has any faith in the Glasgow talks because they are simply not talks.
Why activists fear little-known treaty could slow fossil fuel phase-out
Why activists fear little-known treaty could slow fossil fuel phase-out
Too much money is involved. Do you really think the West Virginian miners or the Australians working their massive open cast mines care. Pull the other one it has bells on.Vital rulings on the world’s energy future are being made behind closed doors and others may be unknown
The energy charter treaty (ECT) was signed in 1994 to protect the interests of western investors pouring money into the oil- and gas-rich nations of the former Soviet Union. Entering into force in 1998, the treaty generated few cases and even less attention.
That changed in 2014 when investors in the energy firm Yukos were awarded a record $50bn payout after a tribunal found that Vladimir Putin’s government had expropriated their assets to prevent Yukos’s then chief executive, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, from entering politics. The European court of human rights reached a similar verdict in the same week.
Khodorkovsky was arrested at gunpoint in 2003 and spent a decade in a Siberian jail on charges widely seen as politically motivated. He was not party to either compensation claim. The Russian government, which never completed its ratification of the ECT, is yet to compensate investors.
While the Yukos case grabbed attention, damages sought and awarded under the ECT are usually much smaller.

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Sure, countries like China and India have a part to play, as does every country on Earth, but let's not forget that in terms of historical per capita emissions the UK's GHG contributions alone are 5.5x that of China and 20x that of India. One has to question the motives of those seeking to shift the burden onto countries like India and China, and citing their current emissions as somehow proportionally equivalent to the West's historic emission of GHGs like C02 - a molecule which can exist in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. The majority of the moral burden falls to the Western political-economic sphere, who must therefore shoulder the majority of the economic burden, and prioritise their own disinvestment in fossil fuel as well as supporting less developed economies as they transition to greener economic models with us.
