I had hypnotherapy in my early 30s when I was going through a divorce and was suffering terrible anxiety episodes. I never felt 'under' in any sense of the word and it didn't doing anything for my anxiety - which went actually when the cow and I finally separated for good!

Just my experience.

Good stuff. It's that sort of thing I wanted to know. I have no idea what it would feel like to be "under" anyway, if it feels like anything at all. And I think I would probably be the same as you, and not be a very good client for it.
I've been offered all sorts of drugs in my time, and never been attracted to any form of mind bending. Except alcohol and Marijuana, in small recreational doses.
Losing any degree of self-control doesn't appeal to me.

I have no problem there. I've had it measured and it's above average. That's good enough for me. In fact average would have been perfectly ok too.

On the subject, do you not get that the placebo effect is a REAL effect? The pill might be sugar, but the effect is real, and has been proved so.
But if you have evidence to dispute that, I'm all ears. No matter what size the text.

It was a friend who reckoned he never had an anesthetic at the dentist. The dentist put him "under" .

Yes, well done BUT if you count placebo as a real rather than discounting it then cannabis oil cures ALL cancer and positive thinking cures spinal injury We all know that the placebo effect is real BUT to use that to justify something that has NO demonstrable effects other than the placebo is stupid .
If you are going to justify hypno - therapy on no other grounds than placebo then you MUST also believe in voodoo .

Is it woo, or does it suffer from the stage hypnotist effect, which seems to be complete woo to me.

On the news a few seconds ago, a teenager with an eating disorder, who had only eaten chicken nuggets, and white bread since childhood, was cured in a one hour session.
She was readily eating foods that would have made her vomit before the session.

A friend's wife had been a smoker for years. She'd tried many ways to quit.
One session with a hypnotherapist and she has never smoked since. That was about thirty years ago.

I know it's anecdotes, but what the fuck? It really worked for them. The effect was definitely not imaginary, and they had tried hard to change, without success.
What do you think?
