This has been explained to him multiple times. He will never get it, or accept it. Why he keeps on having to start multiple threads, who knows. Attention seeking? Probably. The moods should just merge all his crap into one thread.

Maybe MisterMack is going through the menopause, having hot-flushes, sorry, flushes that are no warmer than they have been for the last 16 years and besides even if they were warmer, that'd be great, but they're not because I read it in the Torygraph.

No reference for any of that. I've seen reviews of papers by climate scientists, with SUGGESTIONS for the reason for the pause. Maybe you can explain how come the reasons ''are known'' ? I'd be interested. It would be one of the few things that are ''known'' .Blind groper wrote:Mistermack
The term used was 'relatively flat.'
Temperatures have been rising over the past 16 years, though more slowly than previously. The reasons for this are known and include an increase in sulfate pollution, plus a slight reduction in solar output. Both are temporary.
Most of the suggestions that I've seen involve the deeper oceans heating up, something we don't ''know'' because we don't measure it.

Re: Global warming really is NOTHING to worry about.
As I posted earlier, the outlook for solar power is actually quite promising for the sunnier areas of the world.
The prices are already bumping along at parity, in the most favourable areas. And the technology is improving all the time, as well as production costs coming down.
The main downside seems to be the inability of the output to respond to demand. A gas-fired plant needs nothing else. You can reduce or increase the output at the flick of a switch. Much the same with coal.
But solar output drops with every cloud, and rises and falls with the time of day. So to meet the demand for power, you need another plant of some sort. So basically, you are doubling the capital cost of a gas plant.
It's not as huge a problem as appears at first sight though, because the demand for electricity naturally drops at night.
And with the increasing use of LED lighting, that effect will increase.
There are technologies for storing electrical power, but they aren't used much at the moment. But a lot of research is going into that field, with the looming price advantage that solar will eventually reach.
There's gravity storage, which has been used for some time. You pump water up to a mountain lake, and then generate power when demand is high. It's not highly efficient, and takes up a lot of land.
From what I've seen, the most promising is liquid salt energy storage. That works well with concentrated solar heat generation.
You melt salt, and store it at high temperature in insulated vessels. Then, when the sun goes down, you generate electricity using the heat from the molten salt.
The first big commercial plant is at Solana in Arizona, and it can generate electricity from the molten salt for six hours at night, or when it's cloudy.
http://gigaom.com/2013/10/09/a-huge-sol ... n-arizona/
All of this stuff is just in it's infancy, and as time goes on, electricity generation will get lower and lower in carbon.
The only thing that will put a brake on it, is the fact that the gas and oil price can come down, to compete with lower solar prices.
But at least that will mean cheaper fuel for the masses.

Re: Global warming really is NOTHING to worry about.
That doesn't bother me at all. I just write my thoughts down, I don't give a toss who reads it.Tero wrote:Why don't you start analyernative energy thread for these? Nobody willread them here.
I put it here, because the progressive improvement in the economics of solar is one more reason why AGW is nothing to worry about. Carbon based fossil fuels won't be needed for ever, and there is no sign that global warming is going to be a significant problem this century.
If efficient storage methods for energy are developed, there will be a real incentive to go for renewable forms of energy. And
if the rising demand from Asia keeps the energy prices high, then that will accelerate the development of the technologies.
Germany is on course to be totally powered by renewables by 2050, and that's without using it's nuclear stations.
If solar becomes economic, you can bet that China will be making most of the hardware, so it will be cheap to install in China.
India is likely to grow quickly, but it has an abundance of sunshine, so will probably be using more solar than fossil.
It's not all doom and gloom by any means.

Why would solar iower impact AGW, which you claim does not exist?

Re: Global warming really is NOTHING to worry about.
I've never claimed that. I dispute the evidence for it, I dispute the claims that it is no longer debatable. I dispute that it has been proved, and I dispute that man can yet predict the climate with models, to any meaningful accuracy.Tero wrote:Why would solar iower impact AGW, which you claim does not exist?
I also dispute that if the world DOES warm, the effects will be negative overall.
This thread is just an argument that, if AGW does exist, it's nothing to worry about. It would be far less of a problem than the alarmists would have us believe.
