Can anyone 'have' an autonomous killer robot, surely the fact its autonomous means its act as it pleases and no one owns it

Good point. Make that a "semi-autonomous killer robot".
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Autonomous doesn't mean totally independent, it means you issue the orders and it goes about the mission as it sees fit, within set parameters.

Are they different from Assault Killer Robots or is that just they are painted in ominous matt black and are only programmed to shoot school-kids?

Actually, one of the people quoted in the NS article (in a company that is involved with military robotics) put forward the argument that many non-combatant deaths in war zones are due to tired, confused or emotional reactions by soldiers, which would not be the case with AI decision making. Just an assertion, mind you, no data.

If there was such a factor, it could be more than counter-balanced with various examples of software bugs which could lead to civilian deaths...

I know it's true. B789RQ1 told me they're perfectly safe, and I believe it.

I been known to wrangle a joystick from time to time. But I want a robot I can ride to work and pick up chicks in.
