Can anyone answer me a question about Mars?

I was watching a Mars docu the other day, and the rover took pictures of the side of a mountain, and they pointed out the sedimentary layers as evidence of water billions of years ago.

How did sedimentary layers get up a mountain? I thought that Mars never had any tectonic activity ?
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Not exactly. The core cooled down a long time ago and there is no tectonic plate activity for the past few billion years.
