Hear about the latest pocket sized cold fusion reactor?
Re: Hear about the latest pocket sized cold fusion reactor?
Are there any physicists here? Does this speculation on mechanism make sense?

Messed up quotes there. I'm sceptical about this device. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Obviously, its not the same as some perpetual motion machine, as there is a conceivable mechanism. It's therefore not impossible, just very, very improbableGrahamH wrote:If this is genuine it isn't a free lunch, any more than the oxidation of hydrocarbons is a free lunch to power your car.Cormac wrote:Clinton Huxley wrote:We don't fall for the "free lunch", we know we can't get something for nothing. Nuclearfusion can release huge amounts of energy per mass. The 'fuel' gets used up - nickel becomes copper.

This kind of daft miracle peddling is inevitable as we lead into the greatest energy crunch the human species(or any other) ever faced. It is sad really. Like clutching the rosary beads as the plane comes down short of the runway.

That could be. I thought the Greek connection was interesting. An economic miracle as Greece launches the worlds first megawatt cold fusion power plant? I'm sure there are plenty of people who would like that to be true.Crumple wrote:This kind of daft miracle peddling is inevitable as we lead into the greatest energy crunch the human species(or any other) ever faced. I'm sceptical, but I don't rule it out. Show me the data. I'm more sceptical of claims of "that's impossible".

Hmmm, the "Journal of Nuclear Physics" blog looks like a bit of "vanity publishing" for the cold-fusion devotees and I think Andrea Rossi was involved in setting up the journal. The whole thing smells

Oh, and Professor George Kelly, one of the advisers to Rossi's "Journal" doesn't seem to actually exist...

Well I was referring to a device that Mr Huxley so scurrilously suggested wasonce being touted in Ireland. (No such touting ever happened - we're far too sensible).GrahamH wrote:If this is genuine it isn't a free lunch, any more than the oxidation of hydrocarbons is a free lunch to power your car.Cormac wrote:Clinton Huxley wrote:We don't fall for the "free lunch", we know we can't get something for nothing. There's a whiff of the Gillian McKeith about Adrea Rossi

Leprechaun power?
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Move along please. Noone promoted a perpetual motion machine in Ireland over the last decade...Azathoth wrote:Cormac wrote:Well I was referring to a device that Mr Huxley so scurrilously suggested wasonce being touted in Ireland. Is that a cold fusion reactor in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?

Just googled that.Clinton Huxley wrote:Is that a Steorn ORbo in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?

I had a similar idea for a perpetual motion machine like, decades ago, but I never had the funds for a workshop to build it in.
Contributions gratefully accepted.

You're doing it wrong! Develop a fancy web-site, build up a buzz on the interwebs, announce you will do a demonstration, fail to do a demonstration, ask for more investors to build working prototype and then, the final step: profit.Mysturji wrote:Just googled that.Clinton Huxley wrote:Is that a Steorn ORbo in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?![]()
