You have a point. Without writing, we wouldn't have got very far with everything else.JOZeldenrust wrote:Writing. Hands down. Outsourcing memory since the beginning of history.

Why writing? Why not verbal language?

Because it's much harder to record and access complex ideas in verbal language. The Mad Hatter wrote:Why writing? Why not verbal language?

Stephen Fry makes a very good case for printing as our greatest advancement in his documentary about Gutenberg - well worth hunting for on Youtube or elsewhere if you haven't seen it.
A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

Yorkshire pudding you morons.

“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

Agriculture. There is a direct line from the first farmer to the first person with sufficient leisure time to ask what it tastes like, seriously, on a forum.

Reasonably priced personal jet packs.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Neither is writing.

Electronics. Almost everything we do today involves electronics. I recently saw lawnmowers with onboard computer control.
Re: What is the most badass technology developed by humans?
Computers. In a couple decades, they'll be smarter than we are.
