It would be more difficult to fake it than to really do it.

People have been saying that since this horseshit started, after Capricorn One, a novel about an attempt by NASA to fake a Mars landing, was released as a TV movie.

None of the conspiracy theorists has ever acknowledged this or admitted it made their fantasies impractical.

I was 19 at the time of the first landing. There was 24 hour coverage of the events including live pictures - I was awake through most of the night glued to my TV. The whole world was enthralled - one of the first of those 'whole world' events which happen now and again.

The amount of effort, the complexity of the arrangements, the sheer choreography involved in mocking up the thing would have been at least as complex as doing it for real.

I'm not sure why those who think it was fake do so, but it impoverishes them and belittles an amazing achievement of humankind to do so.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Ah I was wondering when someone would destroy this thread with the white rectangle of truth.

Damn, we were in on the hoax! Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope down the road from me tracked the Apollo missions and the Soviet Luna missions operating at the same time. Or at least pretended to...

Back to diagnostics. At 18s of the orignal flag waving vid you can see the astrounat hold the flagpole at arms length and being sideways to the camera he is quite clearly shorter than the flag. Here is one explanation that almost seems credible until you realise that a suddent directed jet of air would have altered the astronauts trajectory just like a nozzle jet on the space shuttle. This would have been taken into account in the design of any 'pressure release valve' on the suit and the force element dispersed with a back plate?

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......anomaly hunting. Find something you don't understand and go "Aha!"

Govts can barely tie their own shoe-laces, let alone perpetrate perfect and massive conspiracies.

Of course, the crass stupidity, venality and incompetence are all part of the conspiracy...

This is an aspect I should have thought through too. In my old job I used to have contact and dealings with some of the lower echelons in government. As you say they could not organise an orgy in a brothel. All governments operate in a state of near panic, under huge pressure with too much to do and not enough time to do it in. The chaos is unbelievable. When you mix politically ambitious egos, incompetent bureaucrats and compromised policies into it all it is a wonder anything gets done. Often it doesn't.

Let's say just one mission was a fake, Apollo 15. It was done on a reasonable budget of a tenth of the mission. How much would 9/10ths of one Apollo mission be in todays money? :smoke:

About fifteen thousand people were involved in a single launch of a rocket like that.

You cannot possibly be serious. It's ludicrous.

ETA: A hundred thousand people were standing across the bay watching the pretty lights at launch time. They've seen one of these before; you can't fake it, they've got cameras. The press is there. They're doing TV, and everybody's prying into everything, looking for a story.

Wake up.
