A flying academy in Oxfordshire is offering to teach pilots how to fly World War II Spitfire fighter planes.

The Boultbee Flight Academy in Kidlington will provide typical pre-war training in a restored two-seater Mark IX Vickers Supermarine Spitfire...

I could be a real pedant and point out that the Mk. IX wasn't introduced until 1942. For a 100% authentic "pre-war" feel, I demand an early Mk.I, complete with 2-bladed wooden propeller and flat canopy. :hmph:

But since there are none of those in airworthy condition, I'll take the Mk. IX :biggrin:

seeing as we're so bloody clever and these gizmos are so popular, why don't we set about building more? we can probably build them a lot better too.
