North American bees are disappearing at a rapid rate, signaling a dire threat to the production of countless food sources. The Guardian reports that four common species of U.S. bumble bees have declined 96 percent in recent decades, and scientists allege that disease and inbreeding are responsible.
Honey bees have long been known to be in decline, suffering from the enigmatic colony collapse disorder, and the latest research on U.S. bumble bees only exacerbates concerns over future food production, as bees are responsible for pollinating 90 percent of the world's commercial plants, from fruits and vegetables to coffee and cotton.

We'll just have to hire small, poor brown people to do the pollinating by hand, I guess.

Last thing I heard was that CCD was caused by a virus from Australian bees that were imported to replace the losses due to the other set backs Bees have had over the last few years . Another triumph for intensive farming and mono culture .

The amphibians are going extinct as well apparently. I don't understand why? Seems everywhere I look these days things are turning from gold to rust?

Its primary cause is a fungus that's being spread round the world (probably by human activity). It's called Chytrid Fungus (Phylum Chytridiomycota) and creates a kind of necrosis.Crumple wrote:The amphibians are going extinct as well apparently. I don't understand why? It is all in preparation for the rapture.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Re: Beez Buzzed Away
Human activity is the most likely reason. We spread all sorts of diseases all over the world very quickly due to international travel. The pet trade might be a factor too.Crumple wrote:It's had millions of years to do that. Well if I was farming almonds in california for a living then I would be cutting down trees and planting a golf course because they are screwed .Deep Sea Isopod wrote:Who was it who said that without bees humans would only have four years to live?
I guess when the farmers are offered self pollinating strains of all the crops we need to survive they wont be so keen to say that GM crops are 'frankinstein' foods and we are 'trying to be god ' .
