The sequence of graded metamorphic gneiss

is slate -> phyllite -> schist -> Gneiss

The next step up is full melt and crystallisation into granite.

Guess I'm not in the right frame of mind to appreciate rocks just because they're old. My appreciation of this rock is purely aesthetic- and certainly not absent.

I have a diamond blade (tile saw) but it leaves prominent saw marks...how do those fancy lapidary fuckers get it so much smoother?
