should be used for discussion of the mainstream of accepted legitimate climate science. That body of knowledge and opinion is taken as "given" and the purpose of the thread is to discuss the science and developments in understanding of the phenomena involved and the myriad socio-economic implications it poses.
I would prefer that doubts or denials of that body of science not be debated here. Sceptical or denialist debate may be made the topic of another thread anyone may create should they wish.
What is the Accepted Body of Science for Purposes of this Thread?
The following gives a clear boundary for discussion in this topic. Claims which oppose this "body of knowledge" should be discussed elsewhere.
"Accepted climate science" here would mean:
- 1) The body of research cited and summarised by the latest IPCC assessment report, the Fourth Assessment Report, AR4.
2) Any published, peer-reviewed research produced after the date of the publication of the last assessment report (2007 currently) that generally extends or builds on 1).
3) Any other published, peer-reviewed research that was not explicitly included into AR4 but generally supports (or at least does not contradict) its conclusions.
4) Any peer-reviewed research published in a reputable journal.
5) Any views and policies expressed by national science academies.
6) Any official views published by agencies of national governments, e.g., NOAA, NASA, or the British MET Office or the British Sustainability Commission.
