I wonder if the lower gravity completely compensates for the reduced thrust due to the thin atmosphere...

not even close. The air is only 1% density but the gravity is 37%. They compensated with a VERY light craft - 4 lb and two large 4' blades spinning at 2500 rpm - 5 times that of an earth version.
