Just releasing a little venom in a slightly more friendly way. I have had, as part of my work, to study certain scientific papers. The only way I could do it was to 'translate' the papers into English, with a relevant scientific dictionary at my elbow. Science magazines, like SciAm, are not a substitute when you need to get more detailed data from a paper. But I got so frustrated with the horrible and user unfriendly writing!

I agree. But I'm not sure of the cure to the problem.
They write these papers for other experts in a lot of cases. They would feel that they were being talked down to, if the trade language was passed over for plain English.
Maybe they should do two versions, if they feel that Joe Public might want to read it.
