Yes. In South Korea scientists are developing a robot to patrol the border with North Korea. If this was deployed and incorrectly or disproportionately engaged, it is easy to imagine a minor border incursion escalating into a serious confrontation
They've had automated defense turrets for years that will shoot anything that moves. But that really isn't any different than a landmine that will detonate when anything steps on it.
There's a difference between stationary defensive automated weapons and mobile offensive weapons.
Did I say stationary :{D

They have a 1.8 mile target acquisition range, and at 308 lbs can be mounted on a truck. Or perhaps on a "robot" that moves like the US army's big dog robot.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

I can imagine range being an issue - it must be a real energy hog...

Petrol-powered electricity generator is my guess.

From these sites: http://www.bostondynamics.com/robot_bigdog.html

the power supply is a water-cooled two-stroke internal combustion engine that delivers about 15 hp. The engine drives a hydraulic pump which delivers high-pressure hydraulic oil through a system of filters, manifolds, accumulators and other plumbing to the robot’s leg actuators.

It's huge. They say it weighs over 200 lbs and can carry a 340 lb load. Maybe it's not that loud after all.

Imagine that with a stretcher on the back, bringing a hiker out of the deep woods, some place a helo can't get at. We have such cool toys these days.

In Italy during World War II the troopers had an understanding of the system. Supplies came in by ship. Then they were loaded onto trucks. The trucks got as close as they could to the lines, then the goodies were loaded onto mules and sent forward. When the terrain got too rough for the mules the troopers carried them the rest of the way.

This machine and it's brothers are intended to correct that.
