Mindbending attempts to reconcile science and creationism
I stumbled on this crock of stupidity masquerading as some sort of serious science this morning. Creationist 'scientists' attempting to reconcile the distances involved in the universe and the logical time frames involved with the few thousand years that creationists believe the universe has actually existed. There are three main threads to their thinking:
1. God created the light coming from galaxies millions of light years away in transit.
2, Timing conventions have changed and the clock ran faster back then.
3. The speed of light was faster in the past.
I think my jaw dropped open and I started to drool after a few minutes. It is however sort of entertaining in a surreal way so if you want a laugh..

I've seen worse than that, something about the Earth being only 6000 years old but then the Lord, in his Wisdom, dropped the Earth through a "White Hole" into a much older Universe, presumably one he'd made earlier.

This sort of bollocks always amazes me - whenever I am presented with such crap, my instant response is, "OK, let's assume you're right. Do you know what that means? It means that your precious god went to a whole lot of trouble faking exploding stars billions of years ago simply to fool humanity into thinking his holy book was wrong! Why would he do that?"
The same argument applies to god planting fossils, faking carbon dating and any similar wankery. I have yet to hear a coherent answer to the question. Not that I really expect one.

A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

Actually this was dismissed by one of the speakers because he argued god would not deceive mankind and it was a fundamentally dishonest thing for him/her/it to have done!Xamonas Chegwé wrote:This sort of bollocks always amazes me - whenever I am presented with such crap, my instant response is, "OK, let's assume you're right. The weird thing is the nearer they get to logic the more bizarre it gets!

Something to do with the Theory of Relativity, I expectRum wrote:

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Fuck me, but this is asinine. This is nothing more than the fatuous 'water canopy' bollocks extended to the visible universe.

I'm watching the Faith School Menace on 4oD and Dawkins getting flustered when he realises the content of the muslim school's science lessons is so beautiful.

Not to mention all those fossils God had to create and hide at the right rock layer.

I can't believe I actually watched the first 20 minutes of that before having to stop in the name of sanity. In their list of possible explanations, they missed one obvious one, i.e. the age of the universe, behaviour of light, etc., is much as it seems, and creationism is the towering joker.

Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

Re: Mindbending attempts to reconcile science and creationis
But that is the point for them surely? The cornerstone of their world view is that the Bible is absolutely right. So the other side of the equation must be wrong and has to be fiddled with to make the equation right again!Faithfree wrote:I can't believe I actually watched the first 20 minutes of that before having to stop in the name of sanity.
