I've found the cause of lower IQs. It's not race, it's religion. Official !!

While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

To Tyrannical
I understand the point you are making, and it is true that intelligence is partly inherited. For this reason, it is theoretically possible that intelligence may vary according to race. In that case, why are European IQ results consistently below that of Asian inside the USA?
On the Flynn Effect.
Dr. Flynn himself stated that the result had little or nothing to do with general intelligence. He claimed that the change in IQ was a result of changing learning patterns, from the concrete to the abstract.

For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

That range isn't saying much....it only shows average to below average -- only 4 out of all those green dots break a 100 for crying out loud....mistermack wrote:I've found the cause of lower IQs. It's not race, it's religion. Official !!

I read the book the Bell Curve and some other stuff on the subject. The fact is, the racial differences that have been discovered are not very dramatic. After looking at this issue, I really am left unconvinced that there is a genetic link between race and IQ. I think it has more to do with culture, with environment. That seems to me to explain why Asians do better than Caucasians in the US -- the Asian culture in the US is simply to study a lot harder -- they do more hours of work. So, they get better able to answer more questions in a shorter time.Blind groper wrote:To Tyrannical

Also, if some races are genetically inferior in intelligence, then there will be a gene that controls it, and that gene can be found. I don't think it has, yet. I think I'll wait for the gene. Until then, I'm going to go with the easiest explanation: Asian kids show up to be statistically smarter, because they study their asses off in the groups that are tested as part of the survey. If spoiled, lazy white kids studied as much, they'd do about as well on the test.

I just love these assumptions and broad brush hogwash......
Race is NOT a scientifically useful term ...it's an artifact to keep bigots happy and it's use is destructive and divisive.
Nature journals have banned it.
Maybe you should ....or is there some other reason not to use human subpopulations.

I tend to agree. The word 'race' has so much baggage attached to it. However, it is shorter and easier to say or write than any equivalent phrase.
One of the things that gets me is the use of the word 'racist' to describe someone prejudiced against another national or cultural group, who are of the same geographic origin as themselves. For example : I have had unfortunate experiences with several white South Africans of Dutch origins - the Afrikaans. If I say I have reservations about Afrikaans people, does that mean I am racist? After all, they and I are whites of European origin.
Cultures vary. You can have two groups of the same "race" with quite different culture based behaviours. For example : Melanesians of Papuan origin are frequently xenophobic and hostile. On the other hand, I am very fond of the Melanesians of Fijian origin, who are the opposite - open and friendly. If I draw that distinction, does that make me racist?

That's why it needs to be expunged as a concept - it has no scientific use and is damaging.
Melanesians of Fiji are a culture and a part of a larger Oceanic subpopulation that spread across the Pacific. Correct and no baggage.
Appreciating differences based on any particular slice of human demographics involved is fine.
For instance Cubans and Brazilians are often gorgeous due to a mix of genes from various subpopulations that have contirbuted to the genetic pool in their region.
Some Appalachian isolated groups are inbred and high in some mental defects as a result.
Some indigenous Americans and Ahskenazi Jews suffer high incidence of type 2 diabetes.
I dislike Indonesian food as it's too hot.
I think Saudi Arabian culture is ridiculous in its general approach to women.
Got it?
