The real 'climategate' :coffee:
Heartland Institute Exposed: Internal Documents Unmask Heart of Climate Denial Machine
Internal Heartland Institute strategy and funding documents obtained by DeSmogBlog expose the heart of the climate denial machine – its current plans, many of its funders, and details that confirm what DeSmogBlog and others have reported for years. The heart of the climate denial machine relies on huge corporate and foundation funding from U.S. businesses including Microsoft, Koch Industries, Altria (parent company of Philip Morris) RJR Tobacco and more.

It appears that I'm owed a lot of money.
Can someone tell me where I go to get it? I'm not proud.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Wow! I am surprised, flabbergasted, nay, shocked to hear this. Companies who stand to profit from the maintenance of the status quo fund bodies that promote (anthropocentric) climate change denialism? Can it really be true? And if so, why haven't we heard of this before? [/sarcasm]

One of the most prominent anthropocentric climate change deniers is Ian Plimer. He is a professor of mining geology. He is also on record for the following: He has received consultancy fees in the six-digit range from mining companies, sits on the board of directors of three of them, owns substantial parcels of shares of several and has written that the carbon tax will be the end of the mining industry. And would you know it? - He is listed at the Heartland Institute as a "Heartland Expert", and has been a featured speaker at its 2010 conference. Another surprise right there. Not.

The funniest part was when they used computer programmes to make multiple sock puppet personalities which would not conflict with each other to spam global warming discussion pages where ever they could to make it look like there were more people out there dissenting than there actually is.

That certainly tops the shenanigans Phil Jones got up to by a very long shot. Do you have any links for the computerised sockpuppetry?

I'll get it later. There's a whole thread on Ratskep. I can't copy/paste on this phone.

Sinister indeed. Does HB Gary or Aaron Barr have a connection with the Heartland Institute?

Ah. Just reading what the guy who posted the article wrote - I think I got it wrong. Here's the conversation.
I'd rather expect that many of them are paid to write comments in such venues, yunno, like a nickle a word or something. This is a well known fact of life on many US sites that run a positive line on climate change, they are sometimes overwhelmed with comment posts which are little more than Heartland Institute talking points, the same old blather.

There don't even need to be many of them. With the right software a few can appear as a crowd. [article quoted]

I just skimmed over his post and read the article thinking this is what they were doing.
