Just download the 32-bit ISO (DVD image), grab yourself a copy of YUMI:

... run that in Windows (it doesn't need installing), select the correct version of Mint from the list, point it to the ISO file, and it will create a bootable USB pen drive for you.
To my surprise, this is starting to make sense to me now. :FBM:

:hehe:
I was waiting to see the campus VA rep one day when I was at Purdue. Seats in the hall because the office had no waiting room. A maintenance guy comes by and sets up a ladder to work in the overhead, some kind of wiring job. Unfortunately he did this just as classes changed. Suddenly there are hundreds of students in the hall and he's in danger of getting knocked off the ladder. This is when he said, "This place would run a lot better without all these students!"
Well I've spent a lot of my research and working life in a university, and I can tell you, the place is far better without students there. Although, being in the warmer climes up here, there is the perve factor to consider. Quite a bonus to working here.

Mint is just as usuable, if not more, as Windows/Mac. There be some software that you can't run on it, though. If you need that software, you'll either need to use windows, or use linux but run a windows emulator (or a windows virtual box) in it.

I would gladly rid all of my classes of the male students. They block my view.

This is my worry. I have to use some Korean language software to do my job. Not sure if Linux will run/support it. :ask:

Getting Started with Linux: Installing Linux on Your Computer

So you've decided to give Linux a shot, and you've found a distribution that suits you. But how do you actually get it installed? Here, we'll show you how to create a live CD or USB drive, boot into Linux, and install it on your system.

Whether you've played around with live CDs and drive partitioning before or this is your first time, this guide will get you up and running with Linux in just a little bit of time. It isn't the most straightforward process, but if you're reading this, you're probably experienced enough with a computer to pull this off—it just takes a bit of legwork.

 I just want to click a button and make bad thingies go away!!
Get yourself a copy of fucking mint right now, put it in the drive, run it and click install. NOW!

You can try WINE - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_%28software%29

I've never used it, and I'm not sure what its level of effectiveness is, but it's the standard that everyone uses.

But if the majority of your use requires windows-only software, you are probably best to stick to windows. Try the linux out to see if the computer runs ok. If it does, then it isn't a hardware issue, which means it is a windows and/or driver issue. Did you say whether you could successfully start it up in Safe-mode?

I'd be shocked if Linux did not have Korean support at least equal to Windows or the Mac. I've just never had to worry about such things myself.

But as for specific software support: Run a copy of Windows from within Linux using something like VirtualBox. You could try Wine, but I wouldn't go there if that Korean software is in any way complex.

And neither of the above is viable if the PC is low-powered. You could be looking at a dual-boot solution in that case.

Catching up: Mint 14 download in progress...rEv, if you've never used WINE, then I'm going to have to bypass that until I get some first-hand feedback...Mint 14 has been reading 1 hour download time for the past hour... :bored:
