Ethology

Post by Tero » Sat Mar 23, 2013 10:16 pm

I found people who think with common sense (Finnish: farmer sense) actually believe that animal behavior does not change, cannot be inherited and is pretty much programmed. (presumably by god). Ethology is completely unknown to them. They are aware of evolution as physical changes, and deny it. They are not even aware that behavior is inherited.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

This may also have to do with the problem they have of accepting thoughts as molecular activity.

Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.

Blah blah blah blah blah!

Memo to self: no Lir chocolates.

Life is glorious.

Most people (incorrectly) don't believe behavior is inheritable. Hell, most people on this forum don't believe in behavior inheritance cause it's racist :hehe:

Animal domestication resulted in key inheritable change in animal behavior and appearance, as opposed to training or conditioning that is not inheritable. Though ability to be trained or conditioned is inheritable to at least some extent. The Russians did some fascinating studies on domesticating foxes.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
