The Pod Delusion

Post by Xamonas Chegwé » Mon Oct 01, 2012 9:30 pm

I am not usually one for podcasts - but I thought I would give this one a try, having met one of its creators at SitP.

It boasts an impressive list of interviewees and an interesting mix of topics.

This week's was particularly good - for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, an interview with Ben Goldacre about his latest book - Bad Pharma - in which he lifts the lid on the truly horrendous practices which lead our doctors to decide what drugs to prescribe for what ailments. A part of me really has to read this book - but there is another, craven, cowering part that would rather just not know and trust that my doctor knows best...

Secondly, there was an extract from a Richard Dawkins speech in response to "Don't be a Dick", in which he justifies the ridiculing of religious beliefs and similar nonsense. The best bit of this comes at the end, where he criticises "certain atheist websites" that do not use criticism constructively and are just disgustic and offensive...

I wonder who he might mean? :ask:

Anyway. It is worth checking out.

I'll respond out of the kindness of my heart.
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Who cares if anyone responds to this thread? It is an interesting podcast and I thought I would share it with people that might enjoy it. :tea:

(Although a few shellfish puns might be nice... :shifty: )

Crabby bastard.

I felt it was lonely with 0 replies. I did not read what it was all about.

The stuff from the national Secular Society conference this year is interesting. But mostly podcast and vloggers, I think you could read what's being said in about a fifth of the time it takes to listen.

I've never ever landed on a website that worked harder for cash.
It's "donate donate donate" right from the start.

I see no reason to donate. It's just using and linking to the efforts of others, that's all.
Nothing wrong with that, but it hardly warrants charitable support.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
