Here's my latest idea, we all chuck Orpheus some serious cash and get some popcorn for all those who are thoroughly enjoying this, we completely disengage and see who they target next and warn them before the maenads fuck up another online network or social movement.

And D&D alignments don't matter when you're highest stat roll was a 4.

Elfina's weaknesses are being called on her shit, open spaces with people and anything that might look like injustice.

If the opportunity arises to hand one out, simply chose which one you feel is appropriate, pull one out, and hand it to the perpetrator. At this point I recommend calmly walking away. You have said what you need to say and are under no obligation to discuss anything further. Congratulations! You’ve just carded someone!
Yes, this is exactly how swingers cards work. IIRC, the woman who received one of those was angry the couple didn't hang around and let her respond. But the point of the cards is to be non-confrontational.

Incidentally, I think the swingers shouldn't have handed Elise (I think that was her name?) that card at her meet and greet after speaking-- I don't think that sort of thing is appropriate unless the atmosphere is clearly social, and Elise was there to work. But I've discussed my feelings on that in the relevant thread, and I don't want to get into it again.

BUT-- the tactics here are exactly the same. Except that one can't actually walk away from an internet discussion, so the cards in fact become quite confrontational. In fact, they become more like a public shaming, than a "here, I don't like what you did but I don't want to make a scene-- please read this at your leisure" sort of thing.
I fully agree that the swingers' card thing was out of place and they shouldn't have done that to her. I think if someone had done that to me I'd have laughed it off with a head-shake, but I suppose that's beside the point.

These cards, far from being non-confrontational, simply drip with self-righteous passive-aggressiveness. The equation of possible real harassment or assault with possibly being mildly hit on (and everything in between) is a mockery of the former.
Yes, yes, and yes.
Out of the people that ever were, almost all of them are dead.
There are way more dead people, and you're all gonna die
and then you're gonna be dead for way longer than you're alive.
Like that's mostly what you're ever gonna be.
You're just dead people that didn't die yet.

I agree, and it is so obvious to me that missing it comes across as intentional or extraordinarily shallow and unimaginative.

Forgive an outsider for interfering in your trivial social politics, but it seems to me that your enemies are so because they are aggressive and dictatorial and telling you to stop doing things because those things cripple them physically or emotionally. They have shown you where the exhaust vent of the Death Star is.

Yahooo, you're all clear kid!!

I quite like the idea of those cards. It should be a different card for every "offence".

They might well become collectable. You could have fortunes changing hands for the really rare ones, like a special gold card for raping a sceptchick.

You could have straight people hitting on gays, just to get the last card of a set.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Quite probably. And I'm sure we can tally up over 9000 microaggressions...

Actually I think that what they are doing is worthwhile, interesting and ground breaking and we should give then credit for that. They trying to liberate themselves from what they see as male dominated shackles - a patriarchy many of us male privileged people have been programmed not even to see or acknowledge. Just because we don't even see the shackles in the same way they do doesn't mean they are made up and imaginary. The fact that we think they are taking the whole privilege thing too far may say more about our own lower level of consciousness about these issues then their 'paranoia'. They are trying something new - combining left wing ideology, atheism and feminism - all in one heady mix.

Let's not dismiss them out of hand. I think we should approach them in good faith, offer a hand in friendship and perhaps visit them occasionally to cheer them on.

What do you say?

Oh - I'll just add this..
