RD.net to be re-revamped!

A note from the staff: the views expressed herein are the responsibility of the individuals posting them (i.e.-- Heather Dalgleish et al ),
not the Rationalia Forum as a whole, or the Rationalia Association.

And this time they're actually seeking user input. Wonders never cease.

Site Redesign Input

We are going to be redesigning the site this year and would like to know what features and layout changes you'd like to see.

We would like to finalize the design in the next few months then implement it towards the end of the year.

As always you can e-mail support@richarddawkins.net but it would be nice if we could see most of the suggestions on this thread.

So what features would you like to see? What's a problem or awkwardness you'd like to see corrected? What do you like about the current website, what would you like to change?

We also intend to redo The Out Campaign site as well so let us know what you'd like to see over there as it's a pretty static site right now except for additions to the blogroll and occasional submissions to the promo art.

Thanks, the RDFRS design team
I for one am all very excited about these changes. :hehe:

I'm pretty sapped right now - so I'll limit my personal suggestions to them at this minute to:

1) Most ofwhat I've already said, and;
2) HIRE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING - like I also already said.

Time will tell... :tea:
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

I'd like to see a phpbb forum with dedicated moderators.

Oh, wait a minute...

I want to send in a message, but think I should let my ideas simmer for a few days.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I bet the thread gets about 70 responses - with about 10 reading "Comment Removed by Moderator". :hehe:

I've not been on there except to get a lecture to listen to or check on the broader atheist movement news now and then.

Could someone who has just admitted to themselves that religion and/or lives in a highly religious area find some support there? How about a way to feel less lonely if they're the lone unbeliever in their lives?

This brings to mind the young guy who'd had an oppressive theistic upbringing, had just realised his atheism, was glad to find the RDF forum, and was lost into the internet void the same day due to the callous RDF shut down. Who knows where he is now.

Don't go near that elevator - that's just what they want us to do... trap us in a steel box and take us down to the basement.

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

There have been some threads, yes - probably less than used to occur on the forum, shorter in length (normally ringing in at under 50 replies), and now of course impossible to find or rekindle, due to the set-up of the Discussion area with its lack of :bump: , combined with the crappy generic Google site search.

My advice to the RDFRS design team? If you were involved in the redesign of 2010 - kindly fire yourself. Thank you for your cooperation.

How is it this stuff was interesting...well, the biology still is a bit, I am filling in some gaps in college background...but since I took the leap of faith from agnostic to atheist, it just does not feel the same anymore.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

Yeah, I think we should all tell them that.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.
