lordpasternack wrote:What I will say just now is that I have heard through the grapevine that RDFRS is currently in some sort of financial jeopardy, and has been looking to the wider Freethought community for solutions, shall we say.
In light of that situation, my open letter detailing their general mismanagement was passed on by a mutual contact to one such organisation in the wider Freethought community, and said organisation quickly lost any interest they had in RDFRS.
Then, shortly following this incident, this gem of a donations plea was posted to RD.net - asking for cold, hard, cash, funnily enough:

Well, okay, perhaps there are some words - and I've said them:
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

Oh look, they've updated their donations appeal:
http://www.richarddawkins.net/foundatio ... rs-website
"UPDATE: Our wesbite is no longer banned in Pakistan."
"
No longer"? The smell of disingenuousness is strong in this one…
Looks like I'll need to add a few more zingers to this open letter of mine, about RDF:
http://bit.ly/RvzzBn
And it looks like I'll have enough material soon to write a short and punchy article titled "Lying for Reason and Science", to submit to the British press.
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.

thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

I don't know, but I think they rather hastily updated theirs.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

The great thing about Robin Elisabeth Cornwell is that she just can't stop fucking lying - and once you become familiar with her particular tactics, it's like knocking skittles over.
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.

On which particular point, psychologist and author Martha Stout had some wise words to say, in "The Sociopath Next Door":
When considering a new relationship of any kind, practice the Rule of Threes regarding the claims and promises a person makes, and the responsibilities he or she has.
Make the Rule of Threes your personal policy. One lie, one broken promise, or a single neglected responsibility may be a misunderstanding instead. Two may involve a serious mistake. But three lies says you're dealing with a liar, and deceit is the linchpin of conscienceless behavior. Cut your losses and get out as soon as you can. Leaving, though it may be hard, will be easier now than later, and less costly.
Do not give your money, your work, your secrets, or your affection to a three-timer. Your valuable gifts will be wasted.

To laugh or to cry?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I laugh at the whole mess… And then I cry over the fact that people within RDFRS are probably still swallowing Cornwell's bullshit, and not instigating any kind of formal investigation about just what the situation was, with regard to the claims being made about RD.net's status in Pakistan.
Do they not pause to think that maybe it wasn't chance that made me smell bullshit in their fundraiser, and it wasn't luck that made me so correct?

I once had a conversation with someone who met her briefly, along with RD. They weren't impressed either.

A conversation about what in particular? And what was the person's impressions?

Yeah,
and he's dead too.
