Announcement about RDF Part 2.
Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
I certainly am not going to be getting rid of my copies of Richard's books. Richard's unfortunate stance on this issue has no bearing to his scientific contributions and his excellent work The God Delusion, which together with The End of Faith and God is Not Great, forms a seminal book trio for our times. They are all wake-up calls in the wake of 9/11, a call to rationality, a call it seems has been lost on Richard himself. Even geniuses are prone to personal failings, and I consider this to be a very big one. He hasn't demonstrated that he cares at all about the community he created. He has failed to address the issues put to him, instead choosing to pick out the comments about Josh he didn't like. The staff are still to receive an explanation or apology. How can you run a charity and treat your volunteers that way? How can you ask for donations and then dismiss the donators as vile and abusive?
The Richard Dawkins phase is over for me. Now I can get into conversations with atheists and have something to provide other than, "Oh, Richard Dawkins is just misunderstood."

Perhaps the "rhino's twat" bit was a bit OTT? Maybe "rhino's ass" would have been more appropriate, more in keeping with the original metaphor.
In any case, mea culpa. I can only offer this sincere and heartfelt apology:

Matt, although I certainly noticed your pigeon I can't recall seeing too much in your RDF posts I really agreed with - but I've been impressed with your contribution to this debate in various places

Sorry but Dawkins will forever be tainted in my view with an air of condescending hypocrisy.Matt H wrote:I certainly am not going to be getting rid of my copies of Richard's books.
As a scientist he's still one of the best, as a man he just fucking ain't.

My girlfriend (a Roman Catholic) is going to have a big fucking I TOLD YOU SO waiting for me...

I thought particularly insightful/sciencey posts were going to be collated into a single publication...how could RD claim copyrights, or infringement thereof, or whatever?life wrote:Apart from the drama, posts would have to be rewritten so that RD(F) cannot claim any copyrights.Wiðercora wrote:What is now to be done about the proposed Book of RDF?

Hi! I'm a Christian and I have a question for you evolutionists: If we came from monkeys then why are monkeys still around?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

No.. I don't mean like that.. but he's either made his statement without properly looking into what happened or, as I said, and which sadly seems more likely, he simply doesn't give a shit.Katherine wrote:My bold.

Either way, it's a very disappointing response from him.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
