It will change, that is pretty much inevitable when there is such a large change in the population. Noting some of the posts from the refugees though, I think quite a few will drop off (who knows, I might too) but the ruckus will die down.

I said elsewhere I will wait to see what happens to the RD site, whenever it eventually happens. I will be checking in here quite a bit now, to see whether I can join in successfully, and whether the discussions are of the sort for which I am looking.

I don't have a problem with more people here!

I have a problem with 300/400 people joining and then bringing this forum into the spotlight and for negative reasons. I want neither Richard Dawkins nor PZMyers nor Josh nor anyone else considering that I have taken part in this kind of ridiculous witchhunt

When PZMyers joins the forum and starts posting and expressing that he thinks this witchhunt is ridiculous (as he did yesterday) then NO I won't ignore what is going on or being posted.

Ignore him. He's a twat. He even admits it. With glee, I might add.

:( Elessarina, you old timers are on record at this point for not condoning the out-pouring (-gassing?) of emotion by us refugees.

There's going to be a bell-curve shaped stream of people coming in as they realize what's going on, right? Has the influx peaked yet?

I hope you don't paint us all with the same brush so quickly... :begging:

I'm not even sure that's a perfect representation of Ele's position, but that's up to her to say.

Of course not, but everyone's been generalizing.

Er...

Fair enough but I think the name calling and so forth should stop. I have no problem with anyone joining here either. I DO have a problem that I am associated strongly with a forum that Richard Dawkins has been extracting quotes from that might seem to reflect the general opinion. We were already a forum before all this happened.. none of these people bothered to join then..

This forum is not run my a best selling writer or scientist it is run and funded by the users.

I also don't deserve to be told off by PZMyers because of things that have been said here that are nothing to do with me. I have been posting here for a year .. now we have all this negative attention. Why should I have to put up with it..? I don't care what happened to RDF.. Dawkins owns that forum - he can do what the hell he likes to it. If everyone hadn't started throwing insults around because of the changes it would still be open for a further 30 days.

This place is causing me anxiety, I feel pushed out, so do other regular posters. I am signing off now.

I need a break from being told off, told I am wrong, told what I should think by people I have never intereacted with before in a forum that has been my home for the last year.
Like somebody earlier said, I can't speak for all the other newcomers, so it's me - me - me all the way.

I was fairly new to RDF, but still, I enjoyed it. In truth, it was my fifth forum I joined and the third that went belly up while I attended. (I hope that's purely a coincidence btw)

Obviously, for all you original ratz, it might be a bit strange, as a lot of people are coming in, looking around and reacting whereas previously, you had the place to yourselves. I know how much fun a forum can be when there are just the good friends conversing. We did not choose to overrun your internetbasement, but we're glad to be welcome here. And maybe, just maybe, you'll discover other cool new friends in the wave of newcomers.
:hugs:

edit: somebody shoot me, I used 'cool' :what?:

Pawiz will do that over my dead body ;)

@ Elessarina: I understand you are upset but I completely disagree with your sentiment. Since I've been a member at Rationalia I have seen countless examples of venting by some members here about the 2008 RDF schism. This has still been occurring (and still with venom by some) over a year after the events took place. I have also seen many critical posts about RDF here and I've seen how important it is to some of the staff here to ensure they do not moderate their forum the way the 'prefect with swagger stick' RDF moderators did so. When I first became a moderator at RDF I was congratulated by many members here but some members couldn't resist the opportunity to make some unpleasant digs about RDF.

I have very much enjoyed being a part of the rationalia community and I will continue to do so. The negative attitudes of some of the members here against the RDForum has been my least favourite aspect of Rationalia. Thankfully it does seem to be a minority, although sometimes quite a vocal one.

Basically, I am just saying that vitriol towards the Richard Dawkins forum is hardly a new occurence here at Rationalia. ;) Please also try to keep in mind that it has only been two days since the latest drama with the forum shutting down. It takes a bit of time for the shock and raw emotion to heal.

I am hoping that the vitriol is going to start to stop now. I don't think it is helpful.

We should all be us by now, I think. :ask:
