The staff (past and present) have worked very hard but the thing that upsets everyone is the loss of the forum because that's been the whole point of all the work. I can live with being treated like shit provided it's for a higher cause than my own transient emotions, which RD.net forum is of course.

In 3 years it's become the busiest atheist forum on the Internet but that doesn't seem to rank highly with Josh. He really has no idea what he's throwing away (as I've told him via email, which has not yet been answered).
Are you copying Richard in on your correspondence?

I would.
No I'm not. Josh made it plain that we're not allowed to contact RD so I'm not going to do that directly, although there's nothing stopping anybody else sending RD a PM.

RD has my personal email (he used to contact me on it) so if he wants to discuss any of this with me (or pass on a message to the staff) he can (but I doubt that he will get involved personally).

Bloody Hell.

So he right royally fucks over both you and the entire mod team and you are still prepared to listed to his directives from on high telling you not to contact Richard?

At the very bloody least Richard owes you and the other mods a personal thanks and explanation for what happened. You spent so much time moderating his forums for no personal gain and then they do that to you?

I'd be right on the email to Richard.

Fuck Josh, besides who knows what he's actually telling Richard?

No I'm not emailing Richard at the moment. If I do that, I'll be deleted and lose all my posts (some of which I am copying) and these contain lots of information about the forum eg data on how it's grown. This is important info that needs to be kept if ever there's a discussion about why the forum was axed.

Don't contact Richard or else what? Do you still have a job or an official position?

Am I missing something or is there any good reason to trust this Josh fellow?

Edit:

Oops, question answered.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Well, that's a good pragmatic reason for that decision. When you've finished copying your posts, though, you should let rip...

Is there any way to tell if RD is aware of the response to the forum going down? Hell, RD is probably in the wrong, but I'd feel pretty bad if he was just force fed bullshit by Josh the whole time.

He may find out first hand at this forthcoming Atheist convention in OZ. :plot:

RD is unlikely to know because there are no discussion threads about it and when people try to post something on the front page, it's deleted.

The only way he'd know would be if everyone sent him a PM but I couldn't be certain that he'd receive them at the moment.

I doubt whether his minders will let the hoi polloi chat to him, particularly if they are not perfectly sympatico...

But, to repeat myself again, I will not let the current debacle spoil my clear understanding of RD's contribution to our intellectual landscape, nor will I let it spoil my enjoyment of the Melbourne conference...

Sorry to jump topics, but what's going to happen to all the folding dedicated to the RDF team? :(

Can you make it a Ratz team project now?

Can't PM any more. I tried PMing a member who didn't know what was happening, and the PM said "It is too soon etc." even though it was like a couple of hours from the last PM I sent.

Now, only by e-mail. And in the Melbourne convention.
