What I want to know is how do people like that wind up at rationalist sites and despite the fact that no other rationalists agree with them they have the belief that they are the rationalist and thousands of others are irrational?
Not thousands, just you and a few others here, and we end up here because SOMEbody's got to be rational, and it sure as hell ain't going to be you.

I reckon they suffer under the same mental problems that conspiracy theorists suffer. A total disconnect with reality. Fuck, I wish there was somewhere we could hang out without having to listen to these clowns.
There is. There's a magic switch that will take you to a place where you only have to listen to yourself. It's on your computer and it's labeled "OFF." Use it in good health, but USE IT.

If he wanted to have a calm debate about this, he could get it, both here and at ratskep (as can be proved by Nicko over there). But he seems to be a drunk who can't help but spewing rants like a maniac. And yeah, I like a good rant myself, but at least I try and address the underlying points while ranting. He just doesn't seem capable of well thought out debate.
As if you had any clue at all of what comprises a well thought out debate. :bored:

And whose fault is that, pray tell? If you're bored, post something original.

People go funny in the head when talking about politics. The evolutionary reasons for this are so obvious as to be worth belaboring: In the ancestral environment, politics was a matter of life and death. And sex, and wealth, and allies, and reputation... When, today, you get into an argument about whether "we" ought to raise the minimum wage, you're executing adaptations for an ancestral environment where being on the wrong side of the argument could get you killed... Politics is an extension of war by other means. Arguments are soldiers. Once you know which side you're on, you must support all arguments of that side, and attack all arguments that appear to favor the enemy side; otherwise it's like stabbing your soldiers in the back - providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

I don't want to jump into this specific debate but I just wanted to say that the quote displays a woeful, woeful understanding of evolution and psychology... I wasn't surprised when I got to the bottom and saw it was a comment from Yudkowsky. I feel every time I read something from him I get a little bit dumber. It's like my brain fights so hard against the insanity he spouts that it sacrifices IQ points just to get away from it.

I thought Dave was using a quote from a Maxxim or Cracked article to illustrate partisan posting proclivities. Didn't know anyone regarded it a part of the Literature.

How do I align with Seth, I'm a atheist, support the welfare state and don't have a problem with the UK's gun laws. I just don't have a problem with hearing a different point of view, you should try it sometime as you may learn something.

and there you have it Ladies and Gentlemen, rEv wants a rational forum that agrees with him. How is that even possible, wouldn't you have to negate the laws of physics or something. How did you even get a temporary ban at ratskep? I'm just surprised that they didn't make you king mod of the echo chamber. Then you could have banned anyone who wasn't an rEvist.

I have only read a couple of essays from him which I didn't always agree on but that is a good quote. So don't keep us hanging, care to elaborate or is it wrong because you don't like it.

My post count says differently. Your politics are clearly left wing and your 'reasoning' amounts to insulting and trying to shame anybody that disagrees with you.

I'm an atheist too and I support the UKs welfare state and gun laws. Their country, their rules; I'm all over that self determination stuff. I don't support either for my state, though. Over here I'm more of a cold, dead hands kind of guy.

How do I align with Seth,
Jesus, Dave, you can't even remember what you posted only days ago. You've aligned your self with him with the same "I'm the only rationalist in the room" bollocks.

No, I just want a rational forum where people who are obviously irrational are somewhere else.

It's a shame you can't parse simple English words and phrases, Dave. It would probably solve a lot of your forum problems.

Oxymoron. To get a rational forum where obviously irrational people are elsewhere would require you to be banned from that forum.

How very dare you, rEv is always right by fiat and anybody who disagrees with him are so so wrong, so wrong in fact that he doesn't need to show that they are wrong. He just goes straight for the insults and shaming of people who disagree with him which of course they richly deserve.
