I like the idea of a forum to create a library of for laymen accessible science sources, however I don't know how many other places also try to foster this. Now I think it, isn't talkorigins a bit like this? What may help is this: Make sure that you keep the great minds of the old forum with you, like Cali. It is important to make them enthusiastic for your project and have them join in. You see, the hard thing on internet is to find good sources and good quality information, especially about evolution. There is a lot of good information, but hard to filter for a layman. A forum where people can receive explanation about science concepts and links to good sources might help. However, I do think that the last forum, even before the whole chain of events happened could be quite caustic at moments, especially if people did not agree, or if they were religious. I can understand that it must have been daunting that when you try a debate, you are suddenly up against twenty other users, some of them edging a bit towards abusive treatment. Try to understand that it can take quite some time for information to arrive. My conversion took two years as well. As point of reference; while Cali often wasn't fluffy, I did like his style. He did take off the gloves, but had a lot of substance to offer and was a good writer, which helps a lot.
The forum and website could be something like 'Your tourguide through the woundrous world of science and evolution'.
I'd chip in for that
Now i am quite curious, but what happened in 2008 to make people leave? i saw some references to that year, but as I joined in 2009 there, I don't know what it is about.
