Tough shit, a troll got all upset and left.

The weird thing is how you are using this whole thing to foment further discord.

Was he really a troll or just idiosyncratic? I find a lot of the Politics & Current Affairs type debates quite wearisome, to be honest, and wasn't keeping track of the thread - but I know from experience that it's all too easy to dismiss people as 'trolls' as suits one's own tastes and convenience.

As Charlou alludes - many of us will at one point have been dismissed as 'trolls', or as petulant children who left forum X to go suck our thumbs and indulge our lust to talk constantly about fucking, felching, camel toes, the taste of semen and other harebrained nonsense…(And a few enraging things uttered by Richard Dawkins himself to that ends both in public and to me via PM flash through my mind as I recall this. :lay: ) Dismissing us on such grounds wasn't just fucking obnoxious - it was supremely lazy and shallow. We're generally just a little bit more complex and nuanced as individuals than that. People generally are.

And there are some people in life and on here that I don't care much for, whose opinions I don't like, and who irritate me - as well as some that I like who have particular foibles that rub me up the wrong way. Neither of these things mean that they must be 'trolls'. To me, a troll is someone who sets out to be malicious or to wind people up with a view to provoking upset. Aside from that, I try to avoid using the term to dismiss people who so happen to gall me and go against my own personal tastes and standards. It's too easy - and it's just bollocks…
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.

True LP. And if he was a troll, I think he'd still be here.

I try to have a policy of reserving judgment and when I have made a judgment, to keep it open to revision.

And I know damn well I'm idiosyncratic. But that's my thing and the burden is on me to stick around a place long enough for people to get accustomed to me.

I'm not mad at him, but I'm annoyed that he left like he did. I could get over that quite easily though, but I'm not chasing anyone down to have them come back.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

He's done this same thing at other forums. Unless he creates a sock puppet, I doubt we will be seeing him again any time soon.

Fair enough. Aside from any issue regarding any of us bullying or driving him away - I suppose you also have to accept that you can't please all users all the time - and this one appears to have been a fussy customer…

True, you can't please everyone all the time. Also, not every forum is for every person - that's part of the reason there are so many. Hope he finds the right forum for him.

Yes, you really hurt our feelings when you left. :dq:
I would rather he hadn't left, so fuck off with your demeaning smilie.

Make light of that ... dismiss it even ... that's what is happening ... but it's not even the fucking issue ...

Did he do anything wrong? No.

Yes, he left voluntarily ... as RobertS is so fond of noting, but dont any of YOU feel responsible. Image

I sent them an email, asking them in it if money would also cure their fucking incompetence and laughable pretentiousness - and if they could assure me it would, I would be all too happy to donate. :awesanta: :hehe:
