There are still forms to file with the IRS and other government agencies even if the company doesn't pay taxes. In this case, the company's tax id number served the same function as my social security number - to serve as unique identifier so the government would be better able to keep track of forms, filings, and payments.
Fair deuce. See - normally I might just have asked someone there what was going on - but they're quite selective about who they'll answer trivial questions for.

Not to be denied a little bit of schadenfreude though:
Here's RDFRS's mailing address:
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is purportedly their
headquarters:
Meh. Who knows… Maybe Andy Thomson rents a back room or has a trailer parked behind that UPS store.

Nah - I just get the whiff of intrigue and schadenfreude and it's like a red rag to a bull.

So they operate out of UPS PO Boxes? How wonderfully transparent of a foundation that should have some serious office space and be ready to withstand the public eye's scrutiny...

You know, I have absolutely no problem at all with them, or anyone, using PO box services, for whatever purposes they want. It's more the transparent grandiose pretension of calling one of them their 'headquarters' - along with the tacit assumption that we just wouldn't go to the bother of plugging that address into a search engine or Google Maps, and noticing the salient fact that their headquarters look just exactly like a local UPS store…

Well... I don't mind businesses using POB services for whatever reason... even though in many cases, doing so indicates dodgy doings... and after having had to oversee how some businesses that used Prestige PO providers for their address of record pay their taxes... I'd say that dodgy is a euphemism, because the ratio of honest businesses to conmen doing that is fairly low... Of course, maybe prestige free POB services draw a higher percentage of legitimate users.
But this ain't a business, this is a foundation, stating that its fricking headquarters address is a POB... and that's to dodgy what nuclear explosion is to lit match.

I'm sure that Roger Derwen and Marion Mistress take umbrage to that insinuation! They run RDFRS as a tight ship - not a shite tip!

I'm pretty sure they can sue me for slander if they wish. My lawyer and I will be most happy to benefit from the Dawkins' foundation's generosity.

As per POB services again, I'll give them their due. It's quite possible they're working away just fine, being mediocre and talking themselves up as usual, from some perfectly appointed
home offices - and maybe Marion Mistress just doesn't want to deal with tedious RDFRS-related mail coming through the mailbox at the place Richard bought for her in Washington…
