I have shared it with people who I think will be interested to hear the truth from the horse's mouth as it were. Thanks.Peter Harrison wrote:The blog has taken in well over 10000 views now, so it continues to be the best place to post new information regarding this incredible mess. You'll notice I'm not agreeing with many of you, and still see Richard as a victim, although I admit that it's not impossible that he may be behind it all. The point of the entry is to make people realise that discussing the system change isn't the big issue. It's the tactics that need to be highlighted.

It's the same exact situation so why is his reaction so different.Richards comments R.E. 2008 OT event wrote:4. This was not what Josh or I intended. It unleashed an outpouring of distress and anger, perhaps aggravated by the fact that a community of friends had grown up on OT, who suddenly found their channel of communication abruptly and unexpectedly cut off.
5. In the angry exchanges that followed, a dominant theme emerged. Although a minority objected to the guidelines themselves, by far the greatest anger was reserved for the MANNER in which things had been done, and especially the abrupt and sudden cutting off of access to OT.

Heh, so Dawkins just found out he's been vilified in his own forum? Why now? Why not 2-3 years ago? Anyway, of course a freeform format leaves room for that...isn't why you have moderators? Banning? etc...?
Just bewildered by the overreaction. Mods catch shit like that in less than 30 mins.

Re: Announcement about RDF Part 3.
Face facts, folks: we're just not the public that RD wants.
I've always been aware that the "public" in "Professor for the Public Understanding of Science" wasn't meant to include me.
I interpret "public" as in "public convenience", meaning accessible to everyone. But you've only got to read one of RD's books - pick one at random; it doesn't matter which - to realise that he interprets it as the "public" in "public school", meaning inaccessible to plebs.
Now, I've no objection to being invited to raise my game. It could be argued that it's high time I did. But I don't want any part of a website that's planning to adopt an elitist system of checks and balances on the "quality" of its contributors.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Who will check the checkers, and balance the balancers?
I am who I am: a fairly ordinary member of the public. I'm mostly inarticulate, often frivolous, and almost always very stupid indeed. As readers go, I'm not much of a catch.
But I'm also terribly interested in science.
Maybe I'll lurk when the new site comes online - not sure yet. But I'm pretty sure that I won't be allowed to post there.

You're talking about the real world there. It's still a matter of some people being more equal than others.

Probably been said before. If Dawkins had an ounce of integrity he would open up that one thread where he commented on this boondoggle and talk to us. He would demand that his henchman showed up too. They must at least intuitively sense that they made some mistakes. I'm certain that apologies would be forthcoming from all sides.
Barring that my new attitude is Dawkins, who? Fuck'm.

FFS you were invited and you are welcome. It just feels all disrupted at the moment which is to be expected, when the adrenaline has subsided I think we'll have one fucking brilliant bunch of people here!truthinScience wrote:We did kind of barge in here like we own the joint with our bloodlust convictions.HughMcB wrote:Eh... did we ruin Rationalia for everyone else?
Actually, it reminds me of South Park. Something happens and the town flocks to the mayor's office screaming, "rabble, rabble, rabble". By the way, to warn the fine folks here at rationalia, I may tend to frequently reference SP. Sorry, minor character flaw perhaps.
