I've been thinking about this as well. But does it help? Isn't the cause of RDF greater than our personal opinions?
It might be. But the way they handled the forum membership and staff showed that they have no respect for us. How can I support a foundation that does not respect the biggest part of its membership and supporters?
I'm torn between this and the fact that it's like home to me. It's a bit like being burgled, in many ways. The place has been violated, and the violation has been pretty much complete, right down to the ethos that I signed on for. It's going to be hard, and the emotional softie in me wants to scream, but the realist in me knows I'd go back in a blink.

I think that is a great way of characterising it. It might also be like having your house burned down in a bushfire. You want to rebuild on the same spot because that is where you have always lived, but you know that it might get caught in another fire.

I'd only been part of the place for three months and I've already made an emotional attachment. I can't imagine how some of you folks feel.
Goodbye RDF. We hardly knew ye.

I left after the first schism, and since then I have only gone there to ask some questions regarding science, and reading some fundie-nuking threads. I also lurked occasionally, so if it got back up I'd probably still use it for that.

I might go back, depends how it's handled. I wouldn't go as far as demanding Timonen be sacked, but I'd not want him to have any say in the running of any forum, I'd want to see the former mods treated properly, and all efforts made to restore the lost contributions of people like Mazille, CJ, DB/7o9, Valden and Kiki.

And I'd need to see some people eating more humble pie than I think they'd even contemplate eating, so I don't think the chances are high.

I'm assuming there's not as much science and fundie nuking here, then? I'll miss that :(

That’s a hard question to answer. :ask:

I hate to box myself into a corner, but this can easily be my new home. :toot: We were all treated like pieces of dog shit, which shows you how well we were respected. :|~

Okay, I’ll be fair as fair can be…

I’ll post a picture of my bare ass on their site, they bend down (I’d need a screenie) and kiss it for say… 20 minutes, then sure, I’d go back.
If they won’t do that, well… I guess this is where I’m going to stay. :cuddle:

And they can’t say I’m not being fair and forgiving… in fact is there an award for being overly gracious? :hilarious:

I wouldn't ever feel the same.

I don't think it is possible to have a relaxed forum when some cause or person's reputation is on the line.

But RDF could have very easily have put up a sign that read:

"We are going to be a science discussion site, if you are looking for a less formal community you might want to check out these places..."

It would have been very considerate and civil and it did not happen.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I'm just honestly confused... what happened on the RDF? Must've been something I'm not privy too. :(

There should be an "I got fed up with the place years ago" option and you forgot :cheese:
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

I would return to probably only read. I didn't really contribute [300+], unless you count the arguments for and against members' stance respectively. I became attached to the light blue layout, simple background, and quotidian diverse posts from new members. I didn't really understand what was happening, but I'm left with no emotional attachment with RDF if it deletes just about everyone's valuable posts. It was my home page. :lay:

Mine too. Just changed it to ratz. You can get the light blue layout by choosing prosilver on user options, BTW. I had to do that, I just couldn't read the tan on brown default. Age. It ain't for sissys.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
