I admired him - his spirit - what he waxed poetic about - and the fact that, when he was a bit younger, he was a bit ridiculously handsome. I like intellectuals. I like good-natured lechers (and he damn well is one, and very naively so - I don't care about what image his PR people like to maintain). I like quixotic bastards.

Unfortunately, the product wasn't quite as advertised. Let's just say that it seems that he has travelled a little far up his arse since the inception of RDFRS, and has had his naivety thoroughly exploited, and opinions bent, broken and reformed by protégés who know how to push his buttons. I know how to push his buttons, too, but mostly don't, for my particular benefit (and okay, I also poisoned my own well by antagonising him). I could have had him wrapped around my finger if I had wanted to take that route, quite easily - but as I said to Tigger and Pappa in as many words, it seemed almost like grooming a child. :?
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.

thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

You don't need to have a Facebook account to check out photos of every single receipt for every single financial transaction that they have made, here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 482&type=1

Here's part 1 of their Transparency documents (the first 200 photos) https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 482&type=1

And here are their photo albums (caution: some of the patiens' injuries are pretty horrible to see https://www.facebook.com/media/albums/? ... 9021803482

I can't find anything on the website that shows what's been achieved with the money raised in the Christmas 2009 fundraiser or anything since. Is it really not there or have I just missed it? This page doesn't appear to have been updated for the last 2 years http://richarddawkins.net/pages/projects That's the kind of thing I mean when I say they aren't showing any respect to donators because they aren't letting us know what our money went on. I know quite a lot of people who donated to the 2009 fundraiser but wouldn't donate now due to being ignored when asking where their money went.

Makes you wonder - seems like there may be a lot of brains involved in the Foundation, but very little sense.

Indeed Robin, it's so exasperating to see balls-up after balls-up.

I really would like RDFRS to make a difference and I'm sure they have some great people there if only they'd get the communication right and be more open.

I haven't posted there in ages (although I read the articles regularly) but I'm posting something now about fundraising - I hope they don't delete it as it doesn't break their rules.

Well said Jan.

No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I've just seen that and I'm pleased he's read it. I have no quarrel with him or with the RDFRS and wish them both well. My main website for comments has been Rational Skepticism since the forum was closed but I still visit RDnet to read articles and occasionally post a comment.

I don't post here at Rationalia much as I don't really know many of the members here but Heather's posts caught my eye and although I don't feel the same as she does about RD or RDFRS, I think she had a valid point about wanting to know more about what the projects have achieved. It's something I've felt they needed to improve for a long time and I genuinely hope they are successful with it.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
