The Piraha aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. They are amongst the most culturally primitive people still living on the planet
Their lack of religion is because the concept is too abstract for them to comprehend, but they are superstitious and wear charms to ward of evil spirits.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Fine. Insects aren't religious either. That does not mean they are wrong.

Understanding why you are right or wrong is kind of important.

Oh, and I know about the Piraha. I posted about them in the old RDF forums.

Important to whom? If you live in the jungle very few things we think of as important really are.

I meant an important component of human intelligence.

It's good to know theories. But I always appreciate studies in the field. Piraha know exactly how every thing in the jungle works.

Fuck, if I lived in the jungle the things I have now would be even MORE important. Things like electricity, running water, screens, air conditioning, cold beer, internet. Man, it's a long list. Hang on, I basically DO live in a jungle.

OK never mind.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

No, that's not the reason. They don't believe in god because they have culturally enforced practices of not believing information that can't be directly verified or judged.
