agnostic as general term for..what?

Post by Tero » Sat Nov 03, 2012 1:11 am

A business person today used the term. I think he was referring to not following the dogma of business rules in his area of products. Or is it something else?

ag·nos·tic (g-nstk)
n.
1.
a. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
b. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.
2. One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.
adj.
1. Relating to or being an agnostic.
2. Doubtful or noncommittal: "Though I am agnostic on what terms to use, I have no doubt that human infants come with an enormous 'acquisitiveness' for discovering patterns" (William H. Calvin).

Probably what you said - doubtful or noncommittal about doing something a particular way or another.

In a business sense I would use that term to mean that I had no set view, and in reference to the rules wasn't a fundamentalist........likely also means that I would not care too much about how an outcome was acheived (i.e. I would not be looking too closely!).
