That is very interesting. I particularly liked the illustrations to emphasise the ideas, and the reminder that aesthetic appreciation evolved hand in hand with pragmatic utility for survival and reproductive purposes. The hand axe was a fine ... even beautiful ... example.

Along with an appreciation of 'art for art's sake', we do tend to have an appreciation for practical things like well crafted tools and weapons along with an attraction to the people who craft them and use them competently.
