Only English, Irish and French. And the last two are rusty, to say the least.

Note that I didn't say, "speak well". Mangled means MANGLED.

Re: How many languages have you mangled?
Oh well, I can mangle French and Irish on demand. In fact, most so-called "Irish speakers" (of which I am not one) mangle the language on a near-continuous basis. C'est la vie.Gawdzilla wrote:Note that I didn't say, "speak well". Mangled means MANGLED.

The North end of Europe is somewhat comprehensible to me, in text. The more you go south, the less sense I make of it. I can also cover USA and Canada. Stop at Mexico.
Also, I make almost no sense of Icelandic, it is too old and too far removed from the rest up there.

Mangled... Latin, Ancient and modern Greek, Spanissh, Italian, Turkish, Japanese, Hebrew... and of course Frenglish
I've studied some others, but haven't practiced them or used them in enough horrible multilingual jokes for mangling to be qualified.

Sometimes they pretend not to understand you, just to get on your wick. The French seem to have particular trouble in understanding the words "Advance!" and "Chaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggeeeee!".Gawdzilla wrote:Surely if you yell loud enough they would understand English?Clinton Huxley wrote:I can speak just enough French to make my beastly demands understood and no more.

And yet their language is clearly based on English. For example, the word "no" is pronounced just the same. Re: How many languages have you mangled?
I suppose one could regard all the European languages as utterly debased and throroughly bastardised versions of English. Of course most scholars will talk about "Indo-European" and "Romance languages" but I have no truck with that.Gawdzilla wrote:And yet their language is clearly based on English. One can clearly track the spread of civilization out from London to Paris, Rome, Zagreb, Vilnius, etc.Clinton Huxley wrote:I suppose one could regard all the European languages as utterly debased and throroughly bastardised versions of English.
