This is one of those phrases that made me go looking and I never found a good source, consensus seems to be a sufficient kick in the ass that you need to be carried in a medicinal type sling, but the most fun is that tail gunners in certain WWII bombers sat in a sling. I've read about the trebuchet as well but far less than the others. Still only anecdotal.
At least I'm housebroken.

Actually, wenches just became a fixture of renfaires... and "hag" has become a non PC term due to the huge increase in number and politico-economic power of overaged bitchy nags.
