The true Britishness Test can be passed by those who have watched Monty Python, Black Adder and Fawlty Towers. The only other alternative is to prove absolutely you have read LoR and Hitchikers Guide. I learnt this when first moving here in 1985. To become part of the society, i had to work hard and furious at Englishfying my humor. Still considered foreign after 26 years...

Well, last time I was there, they found my humour too dry and deadpan.

 I began unwittingly doing that when I was about 15!

Still not moved there, though... :sigh:

you must have been in the deep south. no humor tooo dry or deadpan in NW, as far as i have found. But, to compensate, friendly folk abound.

The test is simple - are you effortlessly superior, in a languid and bored way, to everyone else?

If Yes, you may well be British and you definitely ain't French.

Don't be so churlish just because of your envy of my natural and easy superiority to you miserable islanders.

If the English Channel did not exist, we would have to invent it...

7) The funniest thing ever on British television was:
a: Del Boy falling through that bar.
b: Basil Fawlty beating up that foreigner.
c: Compo crashing in that bath.
d: Princess Di hitting that pillar.
