Cultural Evolution Fallacy

Post by cronus » Tue Oct 14, 2014 1:27 pm

Events since the industrial revolution are better explained as a consequence of energy flow. Cultural evolution is a seductive myth replacing God with Darwinian terms for absolutely non-repeatable events/inventions better explained as a consequence of changes of energy state. When you have 16 horse-power all is 'sensible' and when you have 16 million horse power still 'sensible' and yet 'amazing' also. :read:

A more accurate term to replace 'evolution' since there are no competitive forms within or without human culture and no selective pressures by default would be a term like 'development'? As a photograph develops, a volcanic eruption also along lines of fairly predictable pathways of least resistance whilst bringing forth totally unique structures in aftermath so human cultures develop, as a fairly complex reaction easily confused to be evolutionary, leaving complicated debris in its wake.

It is really easy to mistake a straightforward chemical reaction, a mess of energy exchanges and material interactions, for a much more complex and subtle process like biological evolution. The easiest way to determine one from the other is longevity. Biological evolution acts on 'deep time' scales. Forms that owe their measure to mere chemical reactions are vastly quicker to be here and gone to gone. It is the triumph of nihilism but modern human civilization is a byproduct of easy to obtain oil....and will vanish to a white dot without the devils the blood.

I would say a pause, call it a economic depression, as hidden organisational strengths are played out. Then the real change will begin and quickly be out of human hands altogether. We can go back to the trees then. :read:

Maybe what's coming will keep us as pets. This fallacy pre-supposes someone like me would keep human beings as pets. I'm far closer to your equal compared with what's coming up ahead.
