Text Used To Uncover Pyschopaths (and atheists)?

It'd be useful for facebook? and other social media? even here? I'd be interested in the details of this when it says ' non-psychopaths used more words about social needs, including family, religion and spirituality ? :smoke:

Psychopathic killers: Computerized text analysis uncovers the word patterns of a predator

ITHACA, N.Y. – As words can be the soul's window, scientists are learning to peer through it: Computerized text analysis shows that psychopathic killers make identifiable word choices – beyond conscious control – when talking about their crimes.

This research could lead to new tools for diagnosis and treatment, and have implications law enforcement and social media.

The words of psychopathic murderers match their personalities, which reflect selfishness, detachment from their crimes and emotional flatness, says Jeff Hancock, Cornell professor of computing and information science, and colleagues at the University of British Columbia in the journal Legal and Criminological Psychology.

Hancock and his colleagues analyzed stories told by 14 psychopathic male murderers held in Canadian prisons and compared them with 38 convicted murderers who were not diagnosed as psychopathic. Each subject was asked to describe his crime in detail. Their stories were taped, transcribed and subjected to computer analysis.

It occurs to me that this is an Americo-centric analysis? I can't imagine religion or spirituality being statisitically significant in any textual analysis in the UK at all?

I learned it from sitting up nights with ex-junkie veterans who needed someone to talk at.

Are you asking If I'm mental or if I have actual knowledge of other mental people ?

The article said the opposite and non-pyscho people were the ones with the magikal 'spiritual/relgious' mumblings...that's why I asked.

I spend more than enough hours listening to the talkative ones in hospital ...and I know a few schizophrenics that 'act up' on a regular basis Often their thinking and reasoning was magical to the extreme

look at OCD ,the adoption of Ritual to fend off dire consequences ...that's magical don't you think ?

Psychopaths probably don't talk about feelings and family and emotional needs etc I would have thought that that is obvious .

That's schizophrenia not pyschopathy - totally different kettle of fish. Anyway, if you read the article you'll see whatever software their using could quite easily be modified & used to detect secular types, at least in America...which should be quite a worrying thing, especially as it would aslo be easy to conflate any secularists detected with a potentially criminal mindset.

Do secularists fit any of those traits they are using as markers, apart from not talking about spirituality and god ?

I mean to look for fundies you would just have to look for terrible grammar and spelling (does this mean i'm a fundie ....Oh NO !!!!!1!)

The article says pyschopaths used twice as many words relating to physical needs, such as food, sex or money in other words but then materialists would also use such words at a higher frequency than a theist...being more in contact with the world. It would be interesting to know the full details of the study and who funded it? :smoke:
