Well Turkey was a bit of a turkey but for the first time ever the poll sitter didn't win. Jason Button in the Brawn Mercedes won effectively leading the race from the 5th corner to the end barring pit stops. The British Grand Prix next and if Button wins that it'll be two British drivers in two British cars Two years in a row (you could call the engine British to as it is made in the UK with a Merc badge stuck on the side.

For a while there I thought Brawn where going to end up with the unfortunate symmetry of having one car go out on the first lap, and the other go out on the last! I love Kimi on the podium, he must be the only driver who drinks more of the champagne than he sprays.

As the BBC team noted, they just don't make circuits like that anymore!

I'm so happy to see Force India score some points especially after Germany where Massa knocked Sutil out of second place.

Italian Grand Prix at Monza today. 5 races left, Jenson Button is 16 points ahead of his nearest rival Rubens Barrichello and there are 4 drivers with a reasonable mathematical chance of winning the title. Lewis Hamilton and his team mate have no chance of winning the title but are now mixing it with the top 4 drivers as the Mclaren is now highly competitive. So it's turning into one hell of a season and just to throw a real spanner in the works is that qualifying was a hot dry day and the race day could have rain. If that happens before the race the track will be clean and the racing line will be slippery. If it happens during the race all hell will break loose as Monza is very much a high speed, low downforce, driver's track ie fuck up your breaking at the end of the long straights and the chicanes and you're in real trouble and the cherry on the cake is that they have added a rule that if a driver misses three chicanes they get a 'drive through' penalty!

The Grid

http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2009/818/6674/

Adrian Sutil at No2 on the grid is just unbelievable, it's like a 3 wheeler getting there. The Force India car is very good in the high speed low downforce conditions at Monza.

Brawn on 5th and 6th on the grid is very good as they are carrying enough fuel to only have to make one stop whereas the cars in front have to make 2 or possibly 3 stops. The Brawn cars are very easy on their tyres as well, It could be a one/two for them. Both the Red Bulls (the team and drivers with a realistic chance of winning the driver and team champion over Brawn) have qualified behind the Brawns and they have to stop twice. At Monza the difference between a a 1 and 2 stop race is about 5 seconds! It's not just the pit stop that counts but the fuel weight affecting the lap times. 1 crash that brings out the safety car can screw a team's race plan completely.

36 minutes to go. Where is the chewing finger nails smiley when you need it :lay:
