Internationals and the UK national teams.

Internationals and the UK national teams.

Is the UK the only country that has separate national teams for Football and Rugby Union (ie. Wales, England and Scotland)?

Also, do players from Northern Ireland play for the Irish teams?

I think so - it just goes back to the foundation of the major team sports.

They do in rugby, but not in soccer.

Who do they play for in football? Is there a Northern Ireland team?

Yes - they're even worse than Wales. :hehe:

In International Rules Football, the team is All-Ireland.

Separate teams for cricket too (though of course the England cricket team is largely South African...)

Not quite as separate though. England and Wales are combined. Scotland and Ireland have their own teams.

It's all fucked up basically and dates back to when the various sports (and their governing bodies, who are as loath to relinquish their little fiefdoms as any such) were formed.
