Scotlandshire give teh USA a Tennis Lesson!

Post by Xamonas Chegwé » Sun Feb 02, 2014 10:13 pm

Andy Murray has confirmed his British (as opposed to Scottish) status yet again by knocking the US out of that there Davis Cup in San Diego. He played quite well. Although the real plaudits must go to team-mate James Ward, who produced the shock win over Sam Querrey on the opening day that set up the British victory.

I think I'll have a nice cup of tea by way of restrained celebration. :tea:

Jeez, the USA had home ground, *and* they got to choose the playing surface - clay, which is Murray's least favourite surface. And they still lost.

I can't believe Ward won that match on Friday. You can't beat a good tennis match for roller-coaster entertainment.

Mon Dieu!

You were lucky it was only 5-0. If they had bigger teams and more matches, the Frogs had plenty of other good players waiting in line to whup your Aussie asses. :razzle:

I'm confuzzled.

Britain and the USA stopped playing at 3:1, after the result was certain. Why did the Aussies and French keep playing dead rubbers? Looking at the rest of the results, it seems that a few played on and some stopped at 3:0. :dunno:

We had this discussion at work today at well. Basically, it's up to the two sides involved in each match to decide whether to go on or not once the match has been decided. They might want to give some of their less experienced players some match practice, or they might want to call it a day. Even if dead rubbers are played, they will be just the best of 3 sets instead of 5.
