Australia: How Shit Are They At Cricket?
I contend that they are utterly shit but you might controversially cleave to the view that they are merely very shit. Discuss.

As you are Irish but neither KLR nor Neil Hannon, I don't think you have any valid opinion, young man.

They are ... not very good. Mind you, they almost won the first test.

But they were butchered in the second. Eviscerated. Humiliated. I almost felt sorry for em. Almost.

I don't recall ever feeling sorry for an Aussie team in any code. Individual Aussie sports people? Certainly. But teams ...

Nope. I remember the horror of the Allan Border years. My gloating now will be unconfined.

I do feel for you poms though. How it must hurt to be beaten at your own game more often than not. Even worse when it's at the hands of some colonial upstart with a population of only a fraction of the old dart.

It's because you blighters take it seriously, which is ungentlemanly.Hermit wrote:...and probably shortlived.Clinton Huxley wrote:Nope. I remember the horror of the Allan Border years. My gloating now will be unconfined.

As long as pommie cricketers like Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad earn up to £700,000 a year from their Lord’s contracts alone, it's difficult to argue that you people do not take it seriously.Clinton Huxley wrote:It's because you blighters take it seriously, which is ungentlemanly.Hermit wrote:...and probably shortlived.Clinton Huxley wrote:Nope. At any rate, the "gentleman" aspect of cricket has disappeared when games were no longer played out, and if any doubts remained about it, "leg side theory" put paid to that.

Re: Australia: How Shit Are They At Cricket?
Yup. We really are now. I am used to India winning test series in India. Slow pitches that turn, Australia's bowling traditionally being strong on the fast end rather than medium and slow bowlers that can turn a ball, and all that. So I became inured to the fact that Australian teams lost eight of the test series played in India between 1997 and 2017 and only drew one and won one. At least we lost none in Australia between 1947 and 2015. In that period we drew three and won eight series.
Yesterday we lost the series at the 'Gabba 2:1. Chasing 328 runs to win the fourth test India got there with with three wickets and 19 balls to spare. It's the second time in a row we lost a test series in Australia against India. In the 2019 series we lost by the same margin.
Just as well I have lost interest in cricket. Believe me. I really have. Not completely, I must admit, but almost. The rot set in with Packer's ODI pyjama circus under floodlights, and it has spread ever since.

India have been playing well for the last couple of years, winning their last five tests I believe.
