The Apprentice was really good. Did Man United win? :hilarious:

 The USA are now 2-0 up against Brazil in the Confederations Cup Final. Brazil have had all the play, but the USA have the goals (and other chances besides). The second USA goal by Landon Donovan was as good a breakout goal as you are likely to see.

Well, it couldn't last. Brazil scored right at the start of the second half and went on to win 3-2, and should have had another goal when the ball clearly crossed the line. Still a great effort by the USA, but it was asking an awful lot for any team to beat Spain and Brazil in the space of a few days.

Great game though - way better than many, many international and club finals I've had the misfortune to watch over the years. :eddy:

There was a time *cough* when the off-season stretched out for several months, and the newspaper pools used the Australian soccer results. Those were the days my friend, long before the Internet and saturation sports coverage on the TV. Even news from South American soccer seemed to take ages to arrive. :eddy:

In Australia footie pools still use the various state leagues for pools. I remember hearing that a local croatian club Adelaide Raiders or Adelaide Croatia back then became famous amongst the croatian diaspora because they where the first croatian team to be feature in the footie pools. Now the A-league runs concurrent with the european football season so it doesn't have to compete with the NRL and AFL and super 14 for stadia and media coverage et al.

Several months without football nooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Back in my youth (years before you were even born :shifty:), there was hardly any live football on the TV (FA Cup final, European Cup Final, a few internationals), so the off-season didn't seem quite so bad as it could have been. But still, the complete lack of football ... summer = no football.

Nowadays, there is always football on somewhere. Or at least ready news of football. Or nostalgia programs (50 best goals of whatever ...). Yes, it's a tough time, but we need these things to help toughen us up.
