I like hockey. I have a favorite team--the Phoenix Coyotes.
Imagine that, a professional hockey team in the desert.

Keep that it might a collectors item one day
Apparently the franchise if it fails will move to.......winnipeg.http://www.torontosun.com/2011/04/19/gl ... t-thursday
GLENDALE - The two warring factions in the desert standoff over the Phoenix Coyotes have agreed to put down their guns and meet, face to face, Thursday.
But that doesn't mean either side, the City of Glendale and the Goldwater Institute, has altered its position.
"Ours certainly has not," Goldwater spokesman Dan Guerin told QMI Agency Tuesday.
The taxpayer watchdog group is convinced the deal that would subsidize Matt Hulsizer's purchase of the Coyotes, a city bond issue to raise more than $100 million, is illegal.
There is also no indication the City of Glendale has agreed to rework its agreement with Hulsizer.
A city spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but a report on the Arizona Republic's web site Tuesday said Mayor Elaine Scruggs was simply responding to a call for a meeting made by Arizona Sen. John McCain.
The two sides have accused each other of refusing to get together.
"We invited them a while back to meet with us in a public setting," Guerin said.
It's expected the meeting, scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, will either include media or be made public through transcripts.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Hulsizer refuted reports that he has walked away from the deal.
"We are absolutely still committed to this franchise, and we are still putting our energy into getting the transaction done," Brad Goldberg, the Vice Chairman of Hulsizer-led Arizona Hockey Holdings, told Fox Sports. "That statement is 100% true, and it's the most important piece of information to get out there."

In ordinary hockey, Australia tends to dominate, with India and Holland being up there as well...

Whereas Australia is in the second tier of world ice hockey and hasn't qualified for the olympic games since 1960.

I think it's that silly American game where sissy boys wear 5" of synthetic armor plating, prance about on a frozen pond, and whack a round rubber thing around with distended golf clubs.Meekychuppet wrote:Ice hockey? Sissy?Animavore wrote:That's like a sissy version of hurling innit?

their plane was escorted by 2 Finnish Air Force F-18 Hornets
totally fucking wasted assistant coach Pasi Nurminen trips and lands on the trophy when they get off the plane
Ossi Väänänen almost dropping the trophy off the bus (note huge dent in the first pic, probably caused by Nurminens head )
