Carn the Pies!
I came here to sneer at the Cats and JimC. Stayed to see what was going on. Oh, yeah, blasphemy is a victimless crime.

It is terrific that we have a collingwood supporter on this thread!Goldenmane wrote:Carn the Pies!

Laughter and scorn from all other supporters can be targetted now so much more easily!

(and, just like any Pie's supporter, the scorn will feed your martyr complex...)

Win/win, really...

It's particularly delicious because one of the primary reasons that I barrack for the Pies is because it pisses people off.

Go the power.
The lads have being play *alot* better so far sans the scratch match of which i wont talk about so i'm somewhat confident that we can make the finals.

Re: The Aussie Rules thread
Geelong had me worried as apart of multi i had them winning by 30.5 (aka 31 points) points or more i was checking the scores intermittently and thought my multi was down the toilet and then i jump on the internetz and watch the game online (you can get it live
) and was nervous as all fark as essendon got it down to 21 points and then the catters kicked two goals and my multi is still alive.

Someone at work asked me who I backed in that game. I said Geelong.
I'd forgotten I was supposed to be rabidly anti-Cats.

Depends whether you meant "predicted to win" or "hoped to win"...Goldenmane wrote:Someone at work asked me who I backed in that game. I said Geelong.

Sometimes I utter the first when considering a Collingwood game, but never the second...

Re: The Aussie Rules thread
Here is my prediction for the top 4 by the end of this season:
1. Western Bulldogs
2. Geelong
3. Saints
4. Collingwood
I suspect the Crows, the Bombers, Sydney and maybe Brisbane will round out the 8...

Re: The Aussie Rules thread
Of course, Hawthorn will be a likely top 8 contender, and could even reach the top 4...
Their coach is an arsehole, though...
(so is the new coach of Richmond - he was a student at my school...)

Re: The Aussie Rules thread
Well, the thing is that I don't really have any enmity for any team. For me, it's all about messing about with the social phenomenon of tribalism and the like (go on, ask me about my views on sport as a social phenomenon some time - back on RDnet there was a thread where someone made the incredibly elitist and frankly retarded claim that anyone who liked sport was a fucking moron... that was a fun thread).JimC wrote:Depends whether you meant "predicted to win" or "hoped to win"...Goldenmane wrote:Someone at work asked me who I backed in that game. Anyway, I don't actually do the whole 'hating other teams' bit, because whilst I find it quite interesting to experience the whole phenomenon, I'm not really interested in investing all that much into it. For example, I'll rag on the Cats here, but only because me old mate JimC's a Cats man, and that (us ragging on each other and each others' teams) is a part of how our social bonding has always been. To put it another way, I hang shit on the Cats because it gives Jim the opportunity to hang shit on the Pies, to which I will respond. It's an integral part of how we relate to each other, and has been for the past couple of years. I value the friendship, and wouldn't have it any other way.
Also, I'm a contrary sod, so I'll often back a team just because I know it will bug mates of mine. It's all in fun, as far as I'm concerned.
However, I also have this other thing: I like to watch a good competition, a good contest. That's the stuff that actually pulls me in, the experience that actually gets me more than idly, intellectually involved.
What all this means is that the vast majority of the time, especially this early in the season, if someone asks who I'm backing in any particular game (that doesn't involve the Pies), my answer will probably be calculated to upset them, rather than be predicated on any supposed knowledge I may have of who is more likely to win or upon who I would like to see win. Later in the season, it will be more likely that I'll make a call based on either which team I think is more likely to win or on which team I would like to see win (based largely on which team will, further down the track give, or has in the past given, the best, most interesting showing/effort).
To give you the short version: I wanted the Cats to win because I knew it would piss off a mate of mine. And, well, I think they're a pretty good team at the moment. Credit, I think, where it's due.
